Home

Woah, next time I'm heavily sedated under morphine, remind me not to write a blog post.  Deal?

So I will give you a wee recap. I know some of you were updated by Mr Bandit on Facebook but thought I'd write down my thoughts before I forget them.

On the morning of my operation I was given pre-medication in order for the pain to be lessened after the op. Two morphine based tablets and two panadol and a zantec like tablet for acid reflux.

By the time they wheeled me into surgery at 7.15am  I was flying high and making jokes with Professor O'Brien (who kindly reminded me of it today) and the staff who were prepping me for theatre.  I drifted in and out of sleep but I do remember being wheeled into the theatre and I remember saying "Nice lights. I like them".  I was under a gneeral anesthetic within a minute.

I don't remember anything about recovery. Apparently I was there for 45 minutes or so. I only remember being wheeled into my room and seeing Mr Bandits face grinning from ear to ear. I remember him holding my hand and stroking my arm and that's it. I woke around 2.30pm. Very, very dozy and drugged up.  I literally couldn't see straight.

Mr Bandit stayed with me til that evening then went for dinner with our friend Catherine (CKK) and her cousin Rosco while I slept.

It's weird, throughout the day I had no pain in my 5 little keyhole wounds, only in my shoulders. Yeouch!

This morning I woke, after a goodnights sleep that ended in pain.  I was being big and strong and asked for just panadol at 4am but woke at 6 in horrible pain in my shoulder and neck (referred pain). They gae me a morphine tab again and off I went back to sleep.

Professor O'Brien came to see me and told me my liver was only a little big enlarged which made all those weks of OptiFast worth it. Funnily enough, that was all I could think of to ask him.

Around 9am today I was walked down to X-Ray where I had to drink a Barium drink so they could see if my band is positioned right and if I was swallowing liquids ok. I got to see it all and saw where my band was which was fantastic. My port is actually located in front of my spine halfway between my belly button and between my boobs.

So I was discharged today with a little packet of paracetemol and a friendly goodbye from two of the squeezeable staff members who were awesome to me. I walked tenderly out to our car and we drove 2 hours to home.

I tend to sleep through my pain for the most part and slept for the whole trip home, right to our front door. It was wonderful to see Master 1.5yrs who stayed with a beautiful friend of mine who moved into our home. By the time she left, I fell into bed and have just woken up.

I'm very sore and as I type this I'm on the phone to Nurse on Call (the hospital isn't answering any of it's phones) because my reflux is causing shocking pain. I can't sit properly and it's yuck.

Anyway I will deal with it soon...

For now I wanted to thank those who left messages for me. I feel very loved and thank you for your support.

Ok time for bed, again. Goodnight!

Hey B
Just letting you know that the reflux thing is quite normal. Nothing to worry about. I lived on morphine and quickeze for at least a week. Give me a call, even in the middle of the night if you need to..here to help you out if you need it.
Take care...you got a long road ahead of you, but it will be worth it.

Hey Beck, thanks for the update! It's wonderful to hear from you. I remember when i had my gallbladder out, i had horrible pain in my shoulder. I woke in recovery and asked if i'd been shot in the shoulder... just ridiculous when you expect pain in your tummy. You're sharing so much, just thought i'd share too :) So glad your home and safe. Thinking of you.

Welcome to the banded world. So happy you made it through ok. I remember when you were told you had to do so many weeks of pre-op and how ticked you were. Well the liver proved it was good. So glad you stuck it out. Rest, drink and walk as much as you can. You'll do fine.

Oh, I missed it! I was so busy moving my blog over to blogspot (yay!) that I haven't caught up with anyone for days..

I'm so glad it went well! The first week or so is hard with pain and fluids and all that but so very soon it will be but a distant memory.

On with banded life! Congratulations! :)

I hope you are feeling much better soon! I can completely relate!!! Except, I didn't have any shoulder pain. so strange how everyone is different. Thanks for your comments on my YouTube channel. It is a big help to hear from so many different people with different surgeons!
